What to Pack for Kenya

What should I pack for a Kenya humanitarian trip?

Pack neutral, modest, layerable clothing for warm afternoons and cool mornings, closed-toe shoes you can work in, a hat and sun protection, any medications in original packaging, your passport with at least six months validity, and about $500 in cash. Skip camouflage clothing, expensive jewelry, and drones.

Clothing

Neutral colors for safari days, modest clothing (covered shoulders and knees) for village, church, and school visits, and work clothes you do not mind getting dirty on Garden Tower build days. Mornings are cool; afternoons are warm. Laundry is available, so repeating outfits is normal.

Shoes and gear

Closed-toe shoes for project days, comfortable walking shoes, sandals for the evening, a refillable water bottle, a headlamp or flashlight, a power adapter, and a daypack for the jeep.

Documents and money

Passport valid six or more months past your return with a blank page, printed Kenya eTA approval, travel insurance details, and roughly $500 cash in newer bills (2013 series or later).
